After more than five hours of deliberations, A Tulsa County jury returned a mixed verdict in the case of a former soccer club coach charged with a series of sex crimes.

The jury found 31-year-old Blake Lewis guilty on three counts of solicitation of a minor and not guilty on two counts of lewd or indecent proposals to a child.

The jury recommended a sentence of 40 days for each of the three guilty charges.

Lewis was emotional during closing arguments when his attorney talked about his career as a soccer coach. He and his family were also emotional when the verdict was read.

During deliberations, the jury sent out six questions about their charges and their instructions as a jury.

This case started back in October of 2015 when Lewis sent an inappropriate message to a 14-year-old girl.

The girl's mom connected with a Jenks Police officer who took over the girl's account and started having conversations with Lewis. The officer, posing as the girl, talked with him for several weeks. During that time, Lewis continued to send inappropriate messages and pictures of himself in his underwear to the minor and would often ask her to do the same. Jenks Police arrested Lewis in November of 2015, after he had set up a time and place to meet the girl.

Lewis was among six witnesses who testified during the trial. He denied having criminal intent with the actual teen, whom he met after first meeting her mother through a mutual friend. The girl, whom Lewis did not coach through his job with the Tulsa Soccer Club, turned 15 during the investigation.

Lewis admitted in court that what he did was wrong, but felt he was set up by Jenks Police.

"They kept the conversation going when I had stopped contacting her," he said.

Lewis will serve a total of 120 days in jail – three consecutive 40-day sentences – and will be forced to register as a sex offender.
