Man killed by train last week in Poteau identified
POTEAU, Okla. (KTUL) -- A man killed last week by a train in Poteau has been identified as a 65-year-old resident of the town.
Russell Gene Fryar was identified by the state medical examiner's office through fingerprint analysis.
Police say Fryar was standing on the tracks about 300 feet north of Dewey Avenue just after midnight March 14 when a southbound Kansas City Southern train crossed.
The train's engineer told investigators Fryar was standing on the tracks facing north. As the train approached, Fryar waved and took a step to the east just before the impact.
He died at the scene.
The collision remains under investigation.
