Mayor announces Langston scholarship for Tulsa County public school employees
TULSA COUNTY, Okla. (KTUL) -- Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum announced Monday a new scholarship aimed at giving Tulsa County public school employees an opportunity to further their own education.
Bynum joined Langston University-Tulsa Associate Vice President Lisa Weis for the announcement from the school's campus on Greenwood.
The scholarship offers a 50-percent discount on tuition for up to six credit hours for any Tulsa County public school employee.
Bynum says this shows the city and the university are putting an investment into the community's education.
"I think it's important to emphasize that this isn't just for teachers," said Bynum. "It's for anyone who works for our schools in Tulsa County."
The mayor says the city will continue working to find other ways to help school employees in the future.
