Muskogee Public Schools closed Friday due to power outages

Muskogee Public Schools is closed Friday after overnight storms caused power outages across the city.

The district posted the announcement to its Facebook page Friday morning.

Severe storms caused damage to multiple parts of the city. The Whispering Pines Apartments building had its roof blown off, a tent shop crumbled under high winds, and power lines were knocked down along Highway 62.

The Red Cross has set up a shelter at the First Baptist Church in Muskogee.

Porter Consolidated Schools in Wagoner County is also closed Friday due to a power outage.
