OHP investigating fatal train accident
OKMULGEE, Okla. (KTUL) —
Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a pedestrian who was hit by a train in Okmulgee County Saturday afternoon.
According to OHP, the call came in just before noon. The caller stated a train had collided with a man on the railroad tracks.
The railroad runs parallel west of Highway 75, north of Conifer Road, half a mile south of Shulter, Okla.
Troopers say 30-year-old Karl Clayton from Okmulgee was walking on the tracks southbound.
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe train was pulling 98 cars when it came within one mile of Clayton.
The conductor sounded the horn about a mile away from Clayton, but he did not acknowledge that he heard the train coming.
The train was unable to stop when it collided with Clayton.
OHP said Clayton was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive injuries.
