OHP: Patient dies after ambulance crashes in south metro
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) —
Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials say one person is dead after an ambulance carrying a patient crashes.
OHP says around midnight, a St. Anthony Hospital ambulance was transporting a 66-year-old Carolyn Koch of Blanchard to their north hospital. The ambulance went off an embankment on the curve of I-44 eastbound near SW 59th St. and rolled before coming to a rest.
The back compartment of the ambulance separated from the vehicle and both Koch and 28-year-old medic Chelsea Stewart were ejected.
Koch was pronounced dead at the scene due to head injuries. Stewart and the driver, 32-year-old Matthew Erickson, were transported to the hospital. Both are in "good condition".
I-44 was shut down for several hours while troopers investigated that crash.
