OSBI: Washington County deputy shoots man trying to stab woman
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Okla. (KTUL) —
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating after a Washington County deputy shot and wounded a man Thursday afternoon.
The deputy said the man tried to stab a woman before he fired his weapon.
The sheriff's office said earlier in the day, they were called to help a bail bondsman who had tracked a bail jumping client to a pasture off Highway 75 and 3900 Road. According to officials, the bondsman was trying to talk with 47-year-old Corey Peoples when deputies arrived. Peoples then pulled a knife out and put it to the throat of a woman who was with him.
Deputies asked Peoples to release the knife, but he refused. The woman dropped to the ground. A deputy fired one shot, hitting Peoples, when he raised the knife to stab the woman.
Peoples was flown to a Tulsa hospital and is currently in stable condition.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office requested OSBI special agents investigate the shooting. The name of the deputy who fired at Peoples has not been released at this time.
