OU fans elated after OU quarterback Baker Mayfield wins Heisman Trophy
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) -- Oklahoma fans are likely glad to hear that OU quarterback Baker Mayfield is the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner.
Fans at Elgin Park in downtown Tulsa were cheering, yelling "Boomer Sooner" and high fiving.
The 22-year-old is the first ever walk-on Heisman Trophy winner and his fans couldn't be more proud.
"Very honored, very proud, very happy," fan Angela Porter said.
"It is awesome, great to see Baker pulled it out especially when you had a lot of people pulling against him," OU fan Aaron Ketterling said.
"It is pretty awesome, it is not something you get to see sometimes ever," OU fan Jeremy Lewis said.
Lewis and Ketterling go to every home and away game.
"You get closer to the team a little bit and get to know their personalities," Lewis said.
You could basically call them Baker's biggest fans.
"His plays show he is the number one player in the country," Ketterling said.
The Sooners need to win one more game to make it to the championship game.
Porter has no doubt who will get them there.
"That's the guy that is going to take us," Porter said.
