Fire Department: Owasso man 'lucky' after early morning house fire

An Owasso man will be out of his home for a bit after an early morning fire, but firefighters say it could've been worse.

Crews responded around 1 a.m. and found flames shooting from the attic of the home. Firefighters say the smell of smoke woke the man up, and he saw fire climbing the wall behind his TV.

Firefighters say they were able to get the fire out pretty quickly.

"It's a little bit rural out here," Battalion Chief Jeff Walker said. "There are no hydrants out here. We called our brothers to the east, and they brought us a tanker from Limestone Fire, and they assisted us with water supply. We had to keep water trickling so our hose lines don't freeze up, but besides that, we didn't have any major issues."

The homeowner is staying with family until he can return to his home.
