Police arrest suspect for murder after 2016 assault victim dies
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) -- Tulsa police arrested a suspect Thursday in a July murder, but they say it started with an assault in January 2016.
On Jan. 26, 2016, Willis Brobegger was assaulted near 11th and Elgin. Police investigated the case as if Brobegger wouldn't survive, arrested William Cooper for the assault.
Police say Cooper's charges were dismissed months later in June 2016 when witnesses failed to appear in court.
More than a year later, Willis died July 5, 2017. The medical examiner determined the cause of death was due to complications from blunt force trauma to the head. The manner of death was homicide.
Police launched a homicide investigation and this week the district attorney's office secured an arrest warrant for Cooper.
Police arrested Cooper Thursday at a homeless camp near 12th and Frankfort. He's being charged with first-degree murder.
