Homicide investigation underway after man found shot to death in vehicle

Officers responded around 10:05 a.m. Thursday to a home near 56th Street North and M.L.K. Jr. Boulevard. (KTUL)

Tulsa police are investigating a homicide in north Tulsa.

Officers responded around 10:05 a.m. Thursday to a home near 56th Street North and M.L.K. Jr. Boulevard. Police say a man was found shot to death in a vehicle.

A 2-year-old girl was also in the vehicle, but police say she is OK.

Family members have identified the man as 28-year-old Lavell Richardson and say the girl is his daughter.

Police believe this was a drive-by shooting. Shortly after it happened, dozens of friends and family showed up, many looking for answers like Tracy Hope, Richardson’s cousin.

"He grew up with my son, and it hurts me like it was my son," said Hope.

Hope says she’s torn up about the shooting. She wants her cousin remembered not as a victim in Tulsa’s latest shooting, but as the loving father she says he was.

"He had a good heart, he had a good heart," said Hope.

The family tells us they plan to hold a vigil for Richardson at a later date.

Police have not yet released a suspect or vehicle description.

This is Tulsa's 69th homicide.
