Police: Man arrested after firing shots on balcony of Tulsa apartment
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) —
Police say a man is in custody after allegedly shooting a gun outside his apartment.
Officers responded around 8:15 a.m. to the Autumn Ridge Apartments near 17th and Memorial. Police say someone heard several shots coming from an upstairs apartment, while another caller told police a man had fired several shots from a shotgun from his balcony.
Police set up containment on the apartment and shut down traffic on Memorial near the complex. Officers made announcements using a loudspeaker on a car, and the suspect came out several times, once while holding a handgun, according to police.
Family members came to the scene and called the suspect, identified as 48-year-old Martin Luther Reed Jr., and allowed police to talk to him. They lost phone contact, but Reed eventually came outside and listened to officers' commands, according to police. Reed was then taken into custody.
Police say it's possible that Reed was under the influence of PCP.
Officers found a handgun and spent shell casings by the doorway of Reed's apartment. It did not appear that Reed was shooting at anyone, police say.
Reed was booked on complaints of reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.
