Police: Man choked to death at Vista at Shadow Mountain Apartments
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) —
Police say they're investigating a homicide at a Tulsa apartment complex, but it doesn't appear any arrests will be made.
Officers responded around 7:50 a.m. to the Vista at Shadow Mountain Apartments near 61st and Memorial. Police say a woman was leaving her apartment when she was confronted by her ex-boyfriend in the parking lot. The two had been apart for more than a year, according to police.
The woman's new boyfriend was inside the apartment when the ex-boyfriend entered without permission, police say. A struggle ensued, and the new boyfriend choked the ex-boyfriend to the point that he became unconscious. Police say the ex-boyfriend, who was 27, died at the hospital just before 9:15 a.m.
Police say it appears the woman's new boyfriend was defending himself. The ex-boyfriend "was in a place he should not have been, doing something he should not be doing," Homicide Sgt. Dave Walker wrote in a press release. No arrests are expected at this point.
This is the city's ninth homicide of 2018.
