Police: Man pulls gun on Uber driver and passengers
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) —
Police say a man was arrested after pulling a gun on an Uber driver and her passengers.
Cody Self, 29, was arrested early Feb. 18 on complaints of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and using a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
Oklahoma City police were contacted by an Uber driver who stated a man had pulled a gun on her and was now following her. The woman told police that she had picked up Self and his girlfriend at Jones Assembly and dropped them off at a home in northwest Oklahoma City.
After dropping them off it was discovered that Self had left his phone in the driver's vehicle but the woman had already picked up another group of four people. The group was stopped at the drive-thru of Taco Bell when Self approached the vehicle and demanded his phone. The Uber driver got scared and drove from the scene.
As the group was stopped at a red light at NW 150 and MacArthur an SUV cut them off and stopped in front of the vehicle. Self got out of the passenger side of the SUV and allegedly pulled a gun and pointed it at the driver. The driver once again got scared and drove from the light.
The driver pulled up to a guard shack of the Gaillardia neighborhood and ran from the vehicle. The vehicle driving Self pulled up to the shack and the man reportedly got out of the vehicle and pointed the weapon at the passengers.
At one point, Self allegedly held the weapon to the side of one of the passenger's head. While he was pointing the gun at the passenger, a second passenger took Self to the ground. The passengers were able to get the gun away from man during an altercation that led to Self biting one of the men. During the struggle, the female that drove Self to the scene got out of the SUV and kicked one of the men. The woman fled the scene before police arrived.
While the men were struggling with Self, a female passenger jumped into the driver's seat and drove through a gate and into the neighborhood.
Police then arrived on scene and took Self into custody. Officers noted he had a strong odor of alcohol. After receiving stitches at a local hospital, Self was transported to the Oklahoma County Jail. He faces five counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon. The woman driving Self has not been arrested but is expected to face charges.
