Popular Owasso Mexican restaurant hit by costly burglary back open
OWASSO, Okla. (KTUL) -- No one ever said being a store manager was easy, but the person who broke into Mr. Pancho Mexican Grill early Wednesday made it even more difficult.
“We never thought we’d be having this kind of situation going on," said general manager Jorge Godoy.
Security cameras caught a burglar breaking in, covered up with a hoodie.
You can see him busting in the front door and ultimately getting away with more than $5,000 from the safe.
“So obviously he’d done it before, he knew what he was doing," said Godoy.
But it is more than just the cash. Godoy snapped pictures of damage left behind. More than $14,000 worth, plus a day of clean up.
“I was here yesterday since eight in the morning, until four in the morning this morning trying to get everything back in shape," said Godoy.
Godoy says the burglar used a bike during the break in but left it behind. It’s now chained outside for everyone to see.
The general manager doesn’t know if the bike was stolen or the suspect actually owned it but he says he hopes someone recognizes it, which might be easy with the steady flow of customers coming in Thursday, many hopeful the restaurant will bounce back.
“It’s going to take a little bit of effort, but I think there will be a show of support, from the Owasso community," said customer Beth Mitchell.
Despite the cameras, Godoy doesn’t plan on beefing up security.
He says he believes the only way to stop this from happening again is the community stepping up to stop these people.
“Go get a job, get your life straight, and stop doing this kind of stuff," said Godoy.
He says he hopes police can catch this guy before he causes more pain to more businesses.
Godoy says the man looks to be around 200 pounds and 5 feet 11, wearing a hoodie with black gloves.
