Tax-free weekend: What's included and what's not?

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) -- It's a big shopping weekend in Oklahoma as the annual sales tax holiday kicked off Friday morning.

Throughout tax-free weekend, certain clothes and shoes are exempt from sales tax until midnight Sunday. Each item must be less than $100 to remain tax free. Athletic shoes and clothing are not included.

Other items not exempt from sales tax include accessories, electronics and school supplies.

The Oklahoma Tax Commission lists the following clothing items as tax exempt:

  • Aprons, household and shop
  • Athletic supporters
  • Baby receiving blankets
  • Bathing suits and caps
  • Beach capes and coats
  • Belts and suspenders
  • Boots
  • Coats and jackets
  • Costumes
  • Diapers, children and adult, including disposable diapers
  • Ear muffs
  • Footlets
  • Formal wear
  • Garters and garter belts
  • Girdles
  • Gloves and mittens for general use
  • Hats and caps
  • Hosiery
  • Insoles for shoes
  • Lab coats
  • Neckties
  • Overshoes
  • Pantyhose
  • Rainwear
  • Rubber pants
  • Sandals
  • Scarves
  • Shoes and shoe laces
  • Slippers
  • Sneakers
  • Socks and stockings
  • Steel toed shoes
  • Underwear
  • Uniforms, athletic and non-athletic
  • Wedding apparel
