According to a recent blog by ESPN baseball analyst Keith Law, Tulsa Drillers 3B Nolan Arenado has taken a "huge step back" in his development this season.
Law claims this has led to "numerous" Major League scouts to question Arenado's effort level.
Arenado was considered the top rated prospect in the Colorado Rockies organization coming into this season and represented in the MLB's 2012 Futures Game. But his offensive numbers in the second half of the Texas League season defend those points.
Coming into Tuesday evening's game, Arenado sported a .102 batting average in the month of July and .125 overall in the second half. It's dropped his overall BA in 2012 to a pedestrian .265.
While his impressive defensive plays continue to flood the local Tulsa highlight reels, his offensive progress has noticeably slumped as the season progressed.
The Drillers finish a four-game series at home against the Springfield Cardinals tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
