Mason Rudolph added to Manning Award watch list
Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph's impressive list of preseason accolades continued to grow Wednesday, as he was named to the Manning Award watch list.
Rudolph, a Heisman Trophy candidate, has already been included on the preseason watch lists for the Maxwell Award, Wuerffel Trophy, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award and the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. He is one of 30 quarterbacks on the list for the Manning Award, which is presented at the end of each football season to the nation's best quarterback. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting.
Heading into his senior season, Mason Rudolph has played at a level that matches some of Oklahoma State's all-time best quarterbacks. He has been tabbed as the No. 1 senior quarterback in the country by Mel Kiper and as the No. 19 player in college football heading into the 2017 season by Athlon Sports.
Rudolph has quarterbacked OSU to a 22-6 record during his two-plus years as a starter and has led the Cowboys to eight victories in games in which they trailed during the second half. He led all FBS quarterbacks returning in 2017 in both interception avoidance and touchdown-to-interception ratio in 2016, and he is already the owner of no fewer than 11 school records.
He is also in position to set OSU career records for pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards and passing touchdowns in the 2017 season and has a chance to finish his career as the most efficient passer in team history.
The Manning Trophy will announce the 10 finalists for the award on Thursday, November 30. The winner will then be announced in the week following the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship.
