Sooner Baseball: Hughes resigns, search for a coach begins

The University of Oklahoma is on the hunt for a new baseball coach.

OU Vice President and Athletics Director Joe Castiglione confirmed that Pete Hughes had resigned his position June 12. Hughes came to Norman four seasons ago and compiled a 128-107-1 record. The Sooners finished no higher than third place in the Big 12 under Hughes.

"We appreciate the dedicated service Pete gave to our baseball program," Castiglione said. "He and his family are good people and we certainly wish the best for them."

Under Hughes the Sooners only advanced to one NCAA Tournament. The search for a new coach begins immediately.

"Our program has demonstrated its ability to compete at the highest level and we are optimistic about our future," Castiglione said.
