Sooners, Cowboys highly ranked in first Coaches Poll

The Sooners and Cowboys both found themselves in the top 15 in the first Amway Coaches Poll of the season.

The Sooners, coming off a Big 12 Championship, rank in at number 8 in the initial poll while the Cowboys find themselves at 11. Alabama leads the poll followed by Ohio State, Florida State, USC and Clemson.

Other Big 12 notables on the first poll are Kansas State at 19, West Virginia at 20 and Texas at 23.

The Sooners kick off their first season under new head coach Lincoln Riley at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 2 against UTEP.

The Cowboys begin the season with an in-state battle against Tulsa at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 31.
