Lon Kruger added another piece to the University of Oklahoma men’s basketball team on Wednesday with the signing of junior college All-American Ty Lazenby (LAY-zen-bee).

Raised in Glencoe, Okla., Lazenby (6-5, 210) joins the Sooners after two seasons of junior college at Northern Oklahoma College Enid. In 2016-17, the guard averaged 22.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game while shooting .451 from the field, .359 from 3-point range and .864 from the foul line.

Lazenby’s 22.9 points per game ranked sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association. He scored at least 20 points in 20 of his 29 games, including seven performances of at least 30 points. His outstanding sophomore season was recognized nationally when he was named an NJCAA first-team All-American – the first in NOC’s program history.

“We’re very excited about Ty joining our program,” said Kruger. “He was one of the leading junior college scorers in the nation this past season and can score in a variety of ways. He has a great work ethic and is excited about becoming a Sooner.”

While at Glencoe High School, Lazenby led his team to three straight Class A state titles and was named the MVP of all three state tournaments. His senior season, The Oklahoman named him to its “Super 5” team as one of the top five players in the state.

Lazenby is the fourth newcomer to sign with the Sooners in 2017, joining incoming freshmen Brady Manek, Hannes Polla and Trae Young.

One of the youngest teams in the country last season, Oklahoma will return over 75 percent of its scoring from 2016-17, including starters Kristian Doolittle, Khadeem Lattin, Kameron McGusty and Rashard Odomes.
