Sooners take home four Big 12 player of the year awards

Four Sooners were honored during the 2017 Big 12 Football Awards.

The awards were announced Nov. 30 ahead of the Big 12 Championship. Heisman candidate Baker Mayfield took home his second straight Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honor.


After a stellar season, OU defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo was named 2017 Co-Defensive Player of the Year alongside Texas linebacker Malik Jefferson.


OU redshirt junior Orlando Brown was awarded his second straight Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year.

After starting every game as a true freshman, OU's Kenneth Murray took home a Co-Defensive Freshman of the Year award.

Also taking home awards were:

Special Teams Player of the Year: Michael Dickson, Texas
Offensive Newcomer of the Year: Will Grier, West Virginia
Defensive Newcomer of the Year: Ben Banogu, TCU

The conference also announced their 2017 All-Big 12 Football first and second teams.
