Bank of Oklahoma named title sponsor for Turnpike Classic
One of The University of Tulsa’s longest-standing football series now has a title sponsor.
Effective for the 2017 season, the football series between the Tulsa Golden Hurricane and the Oklahoma State Cowboys will be named the Bank of Oklahoma Turnpike Classic.
“We’re thrilled to support this historic and exciting series between two of the state’s top college football programs,” said Pat Piper, executive vice president of Consumer Banking Services for BOK Financial. “Bank of Oklahoma’s beginning’s go back to 1910 just before the start of this series so it’s with particular pride that we partner on an event with such rich history and which brings together fans from across the state.”
The Golden Hurricane and Cowboys have met on the gridiron 71 times in a series that dates back to 1914. This year’s 72nd meeting will tie for the most on the gridiron for the Hurricane against any opponent, other than the 72 games with Arkansas.
“Bank of Oklahoma has been a long-standing fixture in the state and the city of Tulsa for many years, and their partnership brings together three of Oklahoma’s finest institutions.” said Dr. Derrick Gragg, Tulsa’s vice president and director of athletics. “This game has a tremendous history as fans of the two schools have witnessed many outstanding players, games and remarkable plays in a series dating back to 1914. We are grateful to Bank of Oklahoma for their sponsorship of the two schools and this turnpike rivalry.”
“We’re thankful that Bank of Oklahoma would partner with us for the Turnpike Classic,” Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder said. “This series has featured outstanding players and teams that have produced memorable moments for more than 100 years and it promises to provide exciting matchups for years to come.”
OSU holds a 39-27-5 advantage over Tulsa.
