TU avenges previous loss to advance in conference tournament
HARTFORD, Conn. (KTUL) —
Less than a week since losing their regular season finale at Tulane, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (15-16) defeated the Green Wave 66-60 in the opening round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament.
The win comes despite Tulane (6-25) holding the Golden Hurricane without a field goal through the final 12:27 of the first half. Tulsa led 26-23 at halftime.
Senior Pat Birt III stepped up with a team-high 15 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the floor. Corey Henderson Jr. tipped in 12 while teammate Sterling Taplin had 10.
For Tulane, Cameron Reynolds led the Green Wave with 17 points; almost half of what he had (31) in a career-performance Sunday against Tulsa. The 7th seeded Golden Hurricane will face 2-seed Cincinnati tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
