TU will face Arkansas in Norman Regional

For the second straight year, the University of Tulsa softball team will play their NCAA Tournament games in Norman.

The University of Tulsa Softball Team will head to the NCAA Norman Regional for the second consecutive season and will open up play against Arkansas on Friday at 11:30 a.m. No. 24-ranked Tulsa split their two-game series against Arkansas in the regular season, picking up an 8-0 win at home in five innings on March 15.

The Hurricane (39-15 Overall) secured The American automatic bid into the regionals by defeating Houston 1-0 in the championship game on Saturday afternoon in Greenville, N.C. for their sixth tournament title in program history. TU also took home the regular season league title with a 15-3 mark and four weekend sweeps.

Tulsa will be making their second straight and ninth overall NCAA appearance, including six of the last seven seasons. The Hurricane played in the Norman Regional last season, dropping contests to Ole Miss and Wichita State to end the 2016 season.

The Hurricane and the Sooners squared off on March 8 at the OU Softball Complex in a 10-inning 1-0 Oklahoma win in a pitchers’ duel between Emily Watson and Paige Parker. Tulsa took Oklahoma to a winner-take-all game in the 2011 Norman Regional that ended in a 5-0 loss.

North Dakota State rounds out a regional that is identical to the 2009 that featured all four teams in the same bracket.

The opening game of the double elimination regional can be viewed on SEC Network.
