Hi, my name is John Laws and I'm a sports anchor/reporter at Tulsa's Channel 8. I signed on with the KTUL sports team at the end of November 2011. This came after spending a little more than four years at KHBS-KHOG, the ABC affiliate in northwest Arkansas.
While I may have spent close to five seasons covering Arkansas Razorback football in the SEC, my roots are firmly planted in the original Big 8/Big 12 country. I was born and raised in St. Louis, Mo. Please don't hold it against me that I was on the verge of attending Mizzou before accepting a late athletic scholarship offer to Southwest Missouri State in Springfield.
I was a four-year letterman with the Bears' swimming and diving program. I graduated in 2005 with a B.S. in media journalism with an emphasis in broadcast. I swam competitively for more than half of the first 22 years of my life, and I'm grateful for the experiences and relationships I've built. I wouldn't trade them for anything.
On second thought, I am willing to listen to offers that involve having a half-decent golf game. Because that's where you'll often find me on my days, struggling on a golf course. Needless to say, it's always a love/hate relationship for me when it comes to challenges. Swimming was the same way because of the required dedication.
Aside from attempted golfing, I often spend my free time watching live sports or movies. However, Netflix & HBO Go have pulled me into some scripted TV programming. As of September 2015, the only family I have in the "Sooner" state is a border collie-mix I adopted from the Tulsa Animal Welfare Center. His name is Barry.
Congratulations if you read this all the way to the end. It means you likely have a longer attention span than I do. Feel free to contact me with story ideas/suggestions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
