Hello! My name is Tyler Butler and I joined the Channel 8 team in December 2016.
I came here from Maryland’s Eastern Shore right along the coast. I started my career as a cameraman at WBOC-TV in Salisbury, Md., working the veeeeery early morning shift (3 a.m. to noon!).
I was given a chance to report there as well, and became the station’s Mid-Shore Bureau Chief, covering Maryland politics and issues pertaining to the Chesapeake Bay. I covered everything from Superstorm Sandy to the collapse of a historic building in downtown Cambridge, from the resurgence of bay grasses in the Chesapeake Bay to the constant struggle between farmers, watermen and Annapolis lawmakers on what method of cleaning up the Bay would work best.
It's safe to say I did a fair bit of reporting about Maryland’s famous crabs as well! Eventually, I worked my way up to the weekend anchor position there and through it all won numerous awards for my work. I’d never won so much as a costume contest before, so that was pretty nice!
When I came to Tulsa, I was struck by how kind the people were, how beautiful the area was and how well the news team at Channel 8 got along. I sincerely look forward to learning more about the area, so please feel free to send any story tips to firstname.lastname@example.org. I will also accept tips on new restaurants to check out or places to see!
When I’m not up on Lookout Mountain, I hang out at home with my cat Moneypenny, cruise around town in my 1981 DeLorean and try to absorb as much as I can about Green Country! I look forward to seeing you out there “in the field” and working alongside the great team here at Channel 8!
