Near Record Rain Event
The complex of storms that dumped significant rainfall across eastern Oklahoma Thursday was almost a record setting event for Tulsa.
First, the rain and cloud cover kept afternoon highs from warming into the 90s. The high July 10, 2014 was 78, which was 3 degrees off the record low-max for the day. The record was 75 dating back to 1950.
The other record we almost tied was the amount of rain we recorded for the day. At the Tulsa International Airport, the rain gauge registered 1.97 inches; the record rainfall for July 10th was 2.20 inches.
One more interesting stat from this rain event is that the nearly two inches of rain Tulsa collected is the most precipitation the city has seen in one day in over a year and a half. The last time Tulsa recorded over 2 inches of rain in a 24 hour period was October 13, 2012.
