Seven people graduated from Tulsa Police Department's Public Safety Communications program this week.
During part of their training, recruits were instructed on how to look up officer information on the computer system.
One of the recruits is the daughter of TPD officer Megan Elias, so the class decided to look up Elias' information, TPD said.
While looking up the information, another recruit recognized the officer as someone from her own past.
During middle school, Lorissa Martinez ran away from home and Elias was the one who brought her back and took the time to have a heart-to-heart talk with her, TPD said.
After their talk, Elias gave her a business card and went back to work.
Years later, Martinez decided to pursue a career with the police department.
During the graduation ceremony, Martinez even showed Elias her business card, which she has been holding onto ever since their first meeting.
