Explosive Boating Accident On Lake Texoma Sends 4 To Hospital
An explosive boating accident on July 3rd sends four people from Denison, TX, to the hospital, including one child.An accident report from Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers indicates Glen Rhoads, 51, was filling his 2000 Crisscraft Runabout up with gas at New Berry Creek Marina on Lake Texoma.The report states Rhoads tried to start up the motor after fueling up.That's when the gas vapors exploded and launched the engine cover into the air, knocking the three passengers into the front section of the boat.Jennifer Riggs, 29; Clayton Riggs, 5; and Alex Riggs, 33 were all burned in the incident. Clayton Riggs was life-flighted to Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City for burns. He is in good condition. Jennifer Riggs was life-flighted to Baptist Burn Center in Oklahoma City. She is listed in good condition. Alex Riggs was treated and released, and Glen Rhoads was treated and released for head injuries.The cause of the explosion is listed as "defective ventilation."
