Shock Quotes

{}

Head Coach Nolan Richardson on the loss

"I thought starting off we dug a hole and then we tried to come out of it. I thought maybe going down the stretch, giving everything we did, that made the difference in the ball game. When we were three points behind, and a shot was taken, I thought that was a turning point in the game, where we did not come up with the rebound. Not only did we not come up with the rebound, but they put it back to five and broke momentum, and that's what you have to do when a team is pressing like we were."

{}

Head Coach Nolan Richardson on the full-court press

"It was one of the first times that we were into the pressure-type defense. Hopefully, this is the way we continue to play. It is very difficult to play it with females all of the game like this, but in order for us to have a chance, this one of the things we will be working on more and more."

{}

Forward Liz Cambage on playing aggressively

"We had a really bad first half and I came out and just got the energy going. Losing sucks, but you learn from it every time. We got Washington a few nights ago, and we got to go get them again."

{}

Forward Kayla Pedersen on areas that need improvement

"We are inconsistent. We kind of went back to the way we started playing we were in the beginning. We stopped pressing and just didn't listen. I think that's what happened in the end of the fourth quarter. We need to try to stay consistent and be more aggressive and step up to the plate."

New York Liberty{} Quotes

{}

Head Coach John Whisenant on keeping the lead

"We have got our own agenda of what we have got to do to get better. I've known Coach Nolan a long time and I know what made him a famous coach was his press. They hit us with that the second half, and even though we tried to prepare for it, we didn't do a real good job. So they got back in the game with the press and our turnovers. But I am proud of my team. We did regain our composure and improved in some areas."

{}

Center Kia Vaughn on career-high 24 points

"I{} just stayed ready. I knew my teammates had to break the press, so I was just prepared to catch the ball and make the layup. I stayed aggressive on the board and stayed aggressive throughout the game. They were an aggressive team, they pressed like crazy. They gave us a run for our money, but we played hard and unified and got this win."

{}

Guard Cappie Pondexter on winning on the road

"I thought it was a pretty good test of us holding up on a long road trip. Feels good to be on the winning side again. We play L.A. Sunday and we just used this game as a stepping stone to get better. You won't face a team like Tulsa all year. They play hard; they play intense and they never stop playing. It was good to face that."
