A toddler is recovering after he was bit by a pit bull at a Midtown apartment complex, late Sunday night.

Tulsa Police Officer Jeff Dosser tells KTUL.com, officers were called to the complex in the 5500 block of East 12th Street around ten o'clock. Dosser says a man was out walking his pit bull when a 3-year-old boy got too close the dog. That's when the dog reportedly attacked the child.

The dog's owner attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle. Several neighbors saw what was going on and tried to stop him. At least one neighbor was struck by the suspect's vehicle in his getaway attempt, according to police. The owner then fled with the dog on foot.

The three year old was taken to OSU Medical Center where he underwent treatment for his injuries. Police said he received two puncture wounds to his forearm, and should recover. Doctors were checking to see if the little boy's bones were fractured in the process.

The dog's owner eventually came back to the complex, and told police he hid the dog behind the complex in a wooded area.

Police wrote him a ticket for harboring a vicious animal. Tulsa animal control officers took the dog, and will keep it for testing. The man reportedly gave up ownership of the animal at that time.
