A woman convicted of murdering her own daughter with a crucifix has been sentenced to prison.

Juanita Gomez, 51, was sentenced Feb. 12 to life without the possibility of parole. Gomez plans to appeal her conviction.

In January, Gomez was found guilty of first degree murder in the August 2016 murder of her 33-year-old daughter. Her daughter was discovered unresponsive with a large cross across her chest and severe trauma to her head and face.

Juanita later admitted to believing her daughter was possessed by the devil and repeatedly forcing a crucifix and religious medallion down her throat.
