Man known as 'tower guy' arrested for Tulsa bank robbery
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) —
A man is in custody after a bank robbery Friday morning and it's not the first time the suspect has made news in Tulsa.
Police responded to an armed robbery at the Arvest Bank near 31st and Mingo just before 11 a.m.
Officers pursued the suspect, identified as 32-year-old William Sturdivant, through east Tulsa, using a tracker pack that was activated when he took the money.
TPD arrested the man at his mom's house a few blocks away from the scene as he was about to get into a taxi, police say.
When Sturdivant was taken into custody, police recovered money from the robbery and an employee of the bank positively identified him, according to police.
Sturdivant was taken to the Tulsa County Jail and booked on a charge of armed robbery.
Sturdivant previously made headlines in 2011 when he took up residence on a Tulsa TV tower for nearly a week. Dubbed "tower guy," Sturdivant finally climbed down after police brought in a retired negotiator to convince him to surrender.
