CLAREMORE, Okla. (KTUL) — As we near the 20th anniversary of 9/11 a traveling memorial is touring Oklahoma, stopping in Claremore Sunday.
The '9/11 Never Forget 20th Year Memorial' was on display at the J.M. Davis Arms & Historical museum and was created by the General Tommy Franks Institute & Museum.
“We’re just taking a little bit of the museum and bringing it out to the people of Oklahoma. Our exhibit is very multifaceted. One of the main aspects of it is a large banner that we have everyone come up and sign. If your smartphone has QR scanning capabilities then you can access all these multimedia files for you to look at,” said Steven Geroff, collections manager with the museum.
For many of us, we can remember the exact place we were when the attacks happened 20 years ago but helps teach those who weren’t born why we will never forget.
“We’ve seen so far in every stop that we’ve been on people are much too young to remember. People that are around them at the time they are stopping by will tell them all about it and the importance of the event,” said Geroff.
A steel beam from the twin towers, debris from the pentagon, and a New York firefighters uniform were all on display.
After sundown two lights filled the sky depicting the Twin towers.
The memorial will make several other stops before 9/11.
