The Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentice said police have found what appears to be human remains partially submerged in a river.

A passerby noticed suspicious items in the river near Sharp Road and reported it to dispatch around 1:49 p.m. Friday.

Officers responded and discovered what appears to be multiple human remains, he said.

He said he's unsure if the remains are connected to the four missing men.

"Currently, we have more questions than answers," Prentice said.

Prentice said it will take a while to remove the remains from the river.

"If it turns out that these four missing men are the remains in the river, then the focus of our investigation will shift from finding them to what happened to them," he said. "If it is determined that it is not them, then we will have two separate investigations."

Police have requested a boat from OHP's dive team to assist in the recovery.

A decision will be made later tonight on if the recovery effort will be suspended until tomorrow.

This is a developing story.
