Authorities: Woman embezzles more than $60K from Oklahoma business to fuel drug habit

A Norman woman has been arrested and accused of embezzling more than $60,000 from a Canadian County business to feed her drug habit.

The Canadian County Sheriff's Office reports that 33-year-old Chazlie Beth Brey was arrested Sept. 24 on two counts of embezzlement and one count of pattern of criminal offenses.

Investigators began looking into Brey approximately four months ago after being contacted by the owner of Caliber Steel and Rohlman Welding, who was suspicious one of his employees was embezzling money.

The investigation led authorities to find that Brey had allegedly embezzled $36,017 through 43 false checks and withdrew an additional $25,746 in 65 fraudulent ATM withdrawals. The crimes are alleged to occurred between January 2017 and February 2018.

Brey was arrested Monday. She reportedly told investigators she was a drug user and stole the money to purchase "illegal prescription drugs and opiates".

She has been booked into the Canadian County Jail.
