TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) – Tulsans are making a difference in the lives of Ukrainian children fleeing war.

Operation Backpack4Kids founder William Vaughan shared photos of children with donated backpacks, filled with essential items, that came from Tulsa.

Vaughan said a local UPS pilot coordinated a backpack drive, and his group delivered the goods to Europe.

The group says they get the backpacks to refugee children in Germany, Poland and even within Ukraine’s borders.

Vaughan said seeing the photos of the children with the donated backpacks “just absolutely melted my heart and took me to my knees.”

“I am truly grateful for the people of Tulsa that put together these backpacks, and the notes that go with it,” Vaughan told NewsChannel 8 via email. “It may not seem like much, but to a small child who is confused, scared, and frightened These backpacks are a symbol of hope and love from people across the ocean, called Americans!”
