OKMULGEE, Okla. (KTUL) -- Okmulgee police are investigating after a body was found in a dumpster at a gas station in front of Walmart.
Police received a report just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday that possible human remains were found by an employee at Murphy's Gas Station. Officers believe the remains are that of an adult female but there was no identification found with the remains.
The medical examiner will have to determine the identify and the cause of death.
Police Chief Joe Prentice says he received information that the discovery may be related to a case in another jurisdiction where the suspect is already in custody. He wouldn't comment further about that case but said he's investigating the discovery as if the crime occurred in Okmulgee until he learns otherwise.
Prentice says police along with the District 25 Violent Crimes Task Force are looking at surveillance video to determine how long the remains were in the dumpster. They are also looking at missing person's cases across Oklahoma and other states as part of the investigation.
