Chelsea man calls daughter minutes after fatally shooting wife, before shooting himself

CHELSEA, Okla. (KTUL) -- Deputies find the bodies of a husband and wife dead in their Chelsea home of an apparent murder-suicide after an argument went terribly wrong.

The sheriff's office says the husband shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself, but not before making a chilling phone call.

It’s a sad ending to a situation that could have been avoided.

“They seemed like nice people," said neighbor Chris Orr.

Orr has lived across from this home for some time. He spoke with the homeowners often.

“They were just old, retired people like me in their 50s," said Orr.

Rogers County deputies responded to the home overnight for what they're calling a murder-suicide.

“At this point, we’re continuing the investigation to find out what started all of this," said Major Coy Jenkins.

It happened off South 4190 Road near the town of Chelsea.

Major Jenkins says the husband and wife were fighting, and at some point, the husband shot and killed his wife then took his own life.

“It’s sad that people become so emotionally distraught that they would end up taking the life of somebody else, and then ultimately, themselves," said Jenkins.

But before that final shot, Major Jenkins says the husband called his daughter to tell her.

“He had become very incensed and had shot and killed her; the daughter, of course, was horrified," said Jenkins.

That daughter then called another neighbor who stopped by to calm the husband down.

Jenkins says he told the neighbor to leave, and moments after walking away, the neighbor heard the gunshot.

“It's disheartening. It’s terrible... a horrible, horrible thing," said Jenkins.

We’re told deputies have been out to the home many times for domestic disturbances involving the two.

Jenkins says there is history of substance abuse at the home.
