TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — Tulsa police are investigating what they are calling the city's 59th homicide of the year after a girl died of what was initially believed to have been a self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday.
Officers were dispatched to the Belmont Apartments at 11300 E 23rd St in east Tulsa just after 2 a.m. after a report of a self-inflicted shooting.
Police say when they arrived, they found an underage female victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The girl was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Officers say a number of witness to the shooting fled the scene while other stayed behind.
They say all the evidence indicates that the shooting was not self-inflicted. The investigation remains ongoing.
Police have not released the age or name of the victim.
