COLLINSVILLE, Okla. (KTUL) -- Skiatook Paws and Claws Animal Rescue Group said someone abandoned a dog in Collinsville and left it for dead.
Phoenix is severely disfigured, and veterinarians are trying to figure out if it stems from a skin disease, abuse or both.
Currently, Phoenix is getting love and care at Family Animal Medicine in Owasso.
The group said good Samaritans discovered the dog on the loose, and knew they had to do something to get it the care it needed last week.
Now, the dog is doing much better, and getting treatment.
Doctors are testing the dog's skin to figure out what exactly is causing his issues.
So far, more than $12,000 has been donated to the rescue group to help with Phoenix's vet bills.
He won't be up for adoption until he is fully recovered.
