Family, friends demanding justice for victim of bar shooting
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — Family and friends of 49-year-old Tyrone Mitchell are in disbelief after he was gunned down outside an east Tulsa bar on Sunday. Tulsa Police are now searching for multiple suspects and a motive.
"It's just really senseless," said friend Latoya Mays. "They took a good guy; he was a good guy. He never bothered anybody and always spent time with his kids."
It was just before 11 p.m. on Sunday when gunshots flew in the parking lot of Torchy's Briar Patch near 11th and 129th East avenue. Mitchell, along with a 34-year-old man, were leaving the bar when police say at least ten people confronted them and started a fight.
"I heard gunshots; it sounded like five of them," said neighbor Walter Wilson. "It was quick. It all happened so fast."
The 34-year-old was shot in the head but made it out with only minor injuries. Police say Mitchell tried running away after he was shot in the leg but landed at a home nearby where he bled to death.
Wilson describes this part of town as nice and says the bar doesn't cause a lot of problems, but he says things are different at night.
"You always hear gun shots. You don't know if somebody got shot up there or not," said Wilson.
Police think there was a some kind previous altercation at another spot that ended at the bar.
As police continue to look for the suspects, the family continues to mourn the loss.
"He does not deserve this," said Joelene Peters, Mitchell's significant other. "Whoever did it, please come forward. Please turn yourself in."
Tulsa police continue to look over surveillance video from the bar and nearby convenience store.
