BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (KTUL) -- One person died in a New Year's Eve fire in Broken Arrow. It happened at a home near 96th Street South and County Line Road just before 9 p.m. Sunday.

The fire was so intense firefighters couldn't immediately enter and search the home. According to the fire department, firefighters found the victim -- 55-year-old Shelly Mayor -- near an exit at the back of the house.

Mayor lived at the home near 96th Street South and County Line Road with her daughter, son-in-law and a granddaughter, according to the fire department. She was home alone at the time of the fire.

Spradlin says the home was destroyed. Investigators still haven't determined the cause of the fire.

Neighbor Dan Kretzer said the home went up in a hurry.

"There was just an explosion and within maybe 15 seconds it was all coming through the roof," said Kretzer.

Fire investigators say the explosion was likely the result of the fire that was already burning.

Spradlin also says the cold and limited access to water were challenging.

"They would start making progress and get the fire knocked down and they would run out of water and they'd have to call in another truck and shuttle water," said Spradlin.
