The vicinity of Meadows apartments in east Tulsa will soon be a part of the Tulsa Police Department's latest initiative to fight crime -- the Flock camera system.

"So far, the reception that we’ve received has been pretty positive," said TPD Captain Jacob Johnson, hopeful that Tulsa will see a drop in crime just as other cities who have deployed the system.

"Not only are we going to see, as other departments have seen across the nation, increase in our arrests related to auto theft, but stolen guns, and drugs, and potentially a reduction in violent crime as well," he said.

How much of a reduction in crime would you consider to be a success? "Any, any, I mean seriously," said Tulsa City Councilor Connie Dodson, supportive of the initiative.

"When you’re fighting crime and it's affecting," she said.

And speaking of the community, as you can see by the abundance of empty chairs, there weren't very many community members at the meeting, which Councilor Dodson blamed on short notice by the organizers.

"We feel like our notice was absolutely not adequate," said Dodson.

"We put together a press release, sent it out 24 hours in advance to the media, so we got out there," said Karen Gilbert of Crime Stoppers.

"Myself, other councilors surrounding the area over here we didn’t have the opportunity to push that message out, so I would hope that the slow attendance might encourage them to have another meeting," she said.

As for notice as to when those cameras should be installed around town?

"We're looking at the end of this month," said Johnston.
