SEMINOLE COUNTY, Okla. (KOKH) — A Hughes County Sheriff’s Office deputy died just after 10 p.m. on Sunday Dec. 9, according to officials.
Emergency responders found deputy Seth Mason unconscious at the scene of a Seminole County residence where shots were reportedly fired.
Efforts to preserve Mason's life were made, but emergency responders were unsuccessful and pronounced Mason dead at the scene.
From the Hughes County Sheriff's Office:
"Deputy Mason hired on with the Sheriff’s Office on his 21st birthday and served the citizens of Hughes County with honor and integrity for seven months. Deputy Mason also served with Hughes County Emergency Medical Services as an EMT for over a year and prior to his service in Hughes County Deputy Mason served as a fire fighter in the city of Wewoka."
The cause of the death has yet to be determined.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into the incident.
