TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — On Friday, Glenpool Police Department was notified of a head-on collision.
The collision took place on Highway 75, north of 151st St.
A black Ford pickup driven by one adult male with one adult male passenger was heading northbound while a funeral procession was headed southbound on 75.
The funeral procession was for a police captain from the McAlester Police Department.
The pickup truck driver failed to stop for the procession and tried to avoid colliding with stopped traffic in front of his vehicle.
During the evasive action, he crossed the center median and metal barrier, went through the guard rail, and hit a McAlester police officer’s vehicle head-on.
The officer had to be extracted from the wreckage of his vehicle and was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The truck's driver and passenger refused medical treatment.
Glenpool police said the truck driver was arrested for driving without a valid license, causing great bodily harm, causing an accident while driving without a license, and inattentive driving. He may be facing additional charges pending the outcome of the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
