Infant dies after reported abuse, suspect to be charged with murder
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) —
An infant who showed up to a Tulsa hospital with severe injuries this weekend has died.
Police say a man was arrested after a 21-month-old child was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in critical condition. The suspect, 24-year-old Zachary Collins, reportedly punched the child and slammed his head into a wall because he wouldn't go to sleep.
The child was pronounced dead Monday morning.
Police say the victim's mother left the baby and her two other children with Collins Friday night when she went to work. When she got back, she found Collins and the child laying on a couch. The baby had bruising on his lips, forehead and torso, according to police.
According to police, Collins later admitted to slamming the baby's head into a wall, slamming him onto a couch and dropping him onto a concrete floor. Police say the child's head left a hole in the wall.
Police say Collins will now be charged with child abuse murder.
