Kay County Sheriff's Department investigates death of two people found in cemetery

The Kay County Sheriff's Department (KCSD) was called to the Resthaven-Sunset Memorial Parks in the 1900 block of E. Hubbard Road, just north of the Ponca City limits, to investigate the deaths of two people from gunshot.

The KCSD was called to the scene about 2:40 p.m. Friday. According to sheriff's investigator John Grimes the bodies were found on the north part of the memorial park. Grimes says they were of an 82-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman. Names have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators found a note at the scene and believe the man's gunshot wound was self-inflicted. Grimes said it is undetermined at this time if the woman's gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

A statement from a witness, who was nearby and thought to work at the cemetery, has been taken Grimes said. The investigation into the deaths is continuing.
