An hours long standoff with an armed man ended after authorities discovered he had apparently taken his own life.

The incident began around 4pm when local deputies responded to a call for a burglary attempt in which someone had been shot at a home on Big Bend Road off County Road 6150 in Osage County.

Authorities say that when they arrived at the residence however, someone began shooting at them, hitting their vehicle.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol was called in for assistance and responded with their S.W.A.T. team, deploying their remote robot and using gas after trying unsuccessfully to communicate with the individual inside the home for several hours.

When they finally made entry into the home around 11 p.m., authorities say they found a man dead from an apparent suicide. No one else was in the home.

Authorities theorize that the burglary call made was an attempt to lure law enforcement officers to the residence.
